PLAYWRIGHT. University of California Santa Barbara, Department of Theater and Dance seeks an accomplished theater artist developing and/or sustaining a national profile as a playwright for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in playwriting. Successful candidate will work collaboratively with a strong team of faculty artists, scholars, and staff in a vibrant, multifaceted department offering BAs and BFAs in Theater and Dance and an MA/PhD in Theater. The assistant professor will teach a number of courses in playwriting (beginning through advanced), design and implement a new play festival of student work in concert with the performance faculty as part of the main stage season, mentor young playwrights both undergraduate and graduate students, interface with our new play development program LAUNCH PAD and with our graduate curriculum, and contribute to the intellectual and artistic life of the university. The department’s main stage season is composed of 5 plays and 3 dance concerts in 2 venues, and 7-10 second stage events in 2 additional venues. MFA in Playwriting or equivalent degree, or equivalent professional experience is required and university teaching experience is preferred. Dramaturgs who have taught playwriting and written plays are welcome to apply.
