Alumna Lihong Chan accepted into the José Limón Foundation company, Limón2

UCSB Theater and Dance is proud to announce the acceptance of alumni BFA Dance Major Lihong Chan into the Limón 2 Dance Company. Lihong was first introduced to the choreography of José Limón while dancing in the UCSB Dance Company in 2019-20 as a senior in the Department of Theater and Dance. Guest Reconstructor Alice Condodina set Limón’s Missa Brevis (1958) on the dance company members that year, and Lihong fell in love with the style and structure of Limón’s creative virtuosity. After graduation, Lihong attended a virtual training intensive with the Limón Company and has since been offered the opportunity to join the Limón 2 Company and is moving to NYC to continue her work with the company.

She is currently doing an intensive in Minneapolis with Limón and Black Label Movement. While there she is meeting the majority of the members in Limon2 and working with the company and artistic director, Dante Puleio. Currently they are diving into Limón's work, The Winged (1966). This is the 3rd piece of Limon rep that Lihong has learned. When asked what draws Lihong to José Limón’s choreography, she said, "The human experience draws me to his work and the simple idea of rise and fall in relation to gravity is so satisfying to explore within all of his movement.” Congratulations Lihong!
