The UCSB Department of Theater and Dance is organizing a series of training workshops led by Jessica Steinrock and her colleague Sarah Lazoff on the subject of Intimacy Direction in theater and dance. Here is a link to an article that explains the nature of this work.
This residency is an introduction and continuation of intimacy protocol in theater and dance for students, faculty, and staff. This intensive offers experience working with Intimacy Directors International's "Pillars of Intimacy" as a guide for choreographing in both class and rehearsal settings, exploring deeper layers of technique regarding choreography as well as broad self-care options for healthy emotional and physical work. The workshops will also investigate techniques for working on peer-to-peer projects/scene work outside of class. This residency is designed to better integrate intimacy practice throughout the department emphasizing consent in the rehearsal and performance spaces.
