Race, Ballet, & American Dance is a Photographic Exhibition Free and Open to the Public Wednesdays ~ Thursdays ~ Fridays, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m in the Performing Arts Theater Lobby.
Race, Ballet, and American Dance presents a rich trove of photographic materials taken before, during, and after the Second World War. The Exhibition considers how race and racism have been institutionalized, sustained, and challenged by American classical ballet artists. Black-and-white exposures make clear Americans’ obsession with blackness and notions of purity and the racialization of dancing bodies in American ballet.
